The recent ruling legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states took the media by storm. The country rejoiced that the Supreme Court decided to embrace loving partnerships of all kinds, regardless of sexual orientation or identity.

Celebrities have never been shy about their feelings, especially when their thumbs are controlling their own social media platforms. Upon hearing this news, music artists and pop culture icons shared their excitement in as many platforms as possible. Here are a few:

Political Figures

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both took to Twitter to formally share how they felt after the national announcement. With such high positions in public office, it was a good PR move for both individuals to announce their support almost instantaneously.

Television Personalities

Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen DeGeneres, both openly gay celebrities, also took a few moments to share this moment of pride with their fans.

Music Artists – Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s hit song “Born This Way” has become an anthem for those struggling to comfortably identify themselves with the LGBT community. It’s only fitting that people took to the streets with this song on repeat to truly tell the world they were born this way.

As if her Twitter didn’t represent her excitement enough, Gaga also took to her Instagram account:

“@ladygaga I have traveled the world watching the younger and older generation come together and fight. I feel privileged to have witnessed the LGBT community and supporters shift public consciousness.”

Music Artists – Sam Smith

Sam Smith, who recently spoke of his coming out story on “60 Minutes,” took to Instagram to show his love for the cause.

“@samsmithworld ALL 50 STATES!!!! So happy. Times are changing my friends. We have such a long way to go and so much more fighting to do so I hope nobody stops and thinks everything’s ok because it isn’t, BUT it’s days like today, and moments like this that we’ve all gotta have a drink and celebrate how far we have come. I couldn’t be prouder to be gay x love to all x #PRIDE #EQUALITY
