If there is one juggernaut company that’s dominated the lives of its consumers, it’s Amazon. Starting out as a book-selling company in Seattle in 1994, the company led by Jeff Bezos, now sells nearly everything you can think of; from electronics to clothing, household goods, e-books and even a smart device called “Echo” with a digital assistant known as “Alexa,” who is reminiscent of a gadget in Black Mirror‘s “White Christmas” episode on Netflix. Unless you are in search for a valuable item — perhaps a rare painting like the Mona Lisa– chances are high that you will find it within the many pages of this gargantuan cyber market.

What has turned Amazon into the success that it is today, is the near infinite nature of the products and services that they offer. If you want a new copy of the most recent and final Wolverine movie with Hugh Jackman “Logan”, it can be purchashed for a little over 10 dollars once shipping fees are applied. If you are self-publishing a book, Amazon Publishing Services is your best friend. If there is a new original series that you have been meaning to check out, Amazon Prime has your back with great shows like “Z: The Beginning of Everything” which details the life of troubled author F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In addition to having every product consumers could ever want and/or search for, the e-commerce site also has a slew of game-changing services such as an email and scheduling service called “Amazon Workmail,” a music streaming service dubbed “Amazon Music Unlimited”, a travel site called “Amazon Destinations” and home grocery delivery services “Amazon Fresh” and “Amazon Prime Pantry”.

Following the most recent holiday shopping season, CNBC has reported that Amazon Prime announced new customer acquisitions in the millions — over four million new memberships to be exact. The Seattle-based e-commerce behemoth has become the definition of the DJ Khaled hit “All I Do is Win,” in that along with gaining a tremendous uptick in new memberships, their signature tech gadgets such as the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick recorded very successful sales during the holidays. On a personal level, Amazon’s announcement about record breaking sales is no surprise to me. Everyone in my network, from my mother to my friends have an Amazon smart device, either an Alexa or an Echo unit.

Although Jeff Bezos is no Elon Musk, he is to me, the smartest businessman of this era. In a very short time in the e-commerce marketplace, his company is able to carefully and meticulously pay attention to what people want and need at any point in time. For instance, other non-Amazon products made popular and purchased on the site during the most recent holiday season, were the increasingly popular 23AndMe DNA tests and Fitbit Charge 2, the wristwatch exercise assistant that turns a person into a cyborg.

Overall, Amazon racked up majority of holiday online retail sales for the 2017 holiday season and CNBC reports that the company plans on opening more physical retail locations in the near future.
