Inc. Magazine’s September issue features their 5,000 and 500 lists, the annual ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America. The print issue will feature the 500 fastest growing companies in the private sector. Inc.’s website shows the full list of 5,000 companies.

The list ranks companies based on percentage revenue growth. The minimum revenue required to make the list was $2 million. The California based telecommunications company, Ultra Mobile, topped this year’s list. In 2014, their revenue was $118.2 million with a three year growth rate of 100,849 percent. The average three year growth rate of the companies on the list is 490 percent. The 5000 companies featured on Inc.’s website combined to generate 647,000 jobs over the past three years and generated over $200 billion in revenue.  


Inc.’s list gives insight into the fastest growing industries within the private sector. IT services, advertising, and health are the three industries with the most companies on the list, accounting for 30 percent of the companies on the list. IT services is one of the fastest growing industries in the country as technology becomes more integrated in the business world.


California placed the most companies on the list with 681. Silicon Valley and the greater San Francisco metropolitan area continues to be one of the hottest locations for new companies.
