New York City is buzzing with excitement for New York African Restaurant Week (NYARW), a two-week cultural celebration featuring discount lunch and dinner three-course meal selections from over two dozen restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Anyone with an appetite for fine cuisine at great discounts is in for a treat.

Food bargains are not the only exciting items on the menu, at the third annual NYARW. Under the direction of NYC’s leading Pan-African cuisine connoisseur and former Wall Street executive, Akin Akinsanya, NYARW will host a series of events during the two-week cultural experience, from May 31 until June 14.

Of special importance to us here at MUI Daily News is NYARW’s inaugural “Iya Oge Food and Fashion Showcase,” an event that celebrates the quintessential African woman of style and elegance. The affair will be held between 1:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on June 13 at the DL, which is located on 95 Delancey Street, in New York City. It will feature a pop-up fashion display with designs from a variety of African fashion brands in NYC, Afrobeats and AfroPop music, a fashion showcase, as well as a variety of delicious Pan-African food and wine specials.

This season, NY African Restaurant Week runs for two weeks, from May 31-June 7. During this period, over two dozen restaurants will be offering three-course lunch and dinner menu items at a discount (nyarw.com)

According to NYARW founder, Akin Akinsanya, the term “Iya Oge” is used to symbolize a trendsetter and lady of elegance, in Nigeria’s Yoruba culture. Therefore, the event will pay homage to women who all embody the essence and style of Iya Oge.

The fashion showcase and culinary experience at the event remains highly anticipated among New Yorkers alike, as NYARW has recently announced that guests will be given a chance to vote for an “Iya Oge Queen” and a “NYARW Best Chef” at the event. There are a limited number of complimentary tickets to the event. Interested parties are highly encouraged to RSVP today — June 9 — either to info@NYARW.com or info@MUIPR.com. Complimentary passes will be available through 5PM EST this Friday, June 12.
