Television star Lauren Conrad is more than just a fashion icon, she is a role model for today’s girls. Beginning her professional career on the reality show “Laguna Beach”and “The Hills,” Conrad then moved on in search of a career in fashion.

Starting her fashion career at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Conrad has worked for fashion brands like Teen Vogue and People’s Revolution. Conrad has also launched her own fashion line, written seven books, runs her own blog and has started an online book club.

Conrad is not only a role model, but her name has become an international brand as well. Her success was not just handed to her. Moving from reality television to the professional fashion world was not easy. Conrad tells Levo.com

“The TV show did not help my reputation very much. It was difficult to be taken seriously. But I think the fact that I went to school to study fashion and worked in the industry helped me. I think it’s a good thing to feel like you have to prove something, because you’re always going to have to work a little bit harder.”

Even with her enormous success, Conrad still remains down to earth and maintains her image as a positive role model for teens and young girls alike.

Adults and professionals around the internet have criticized Conrad, berating her for having no talent, or any life experiences to back up her self-help books. Regardless of those critiques, Conrad has proved that she has an amazing knack for reaching a younger audience, and reaching them on a personal level that other sources cannot. She was the “It Girl” in high school, has been to the most fabulous red carpet events, and still manages to maintain her “good girl” aesthetic.

As a young woman, Conrad has the capacity to talk to her readers and fans as a peer, sharing their fashion sense, giving beauty tips, and most importantly confidence advice.

Her books talk about the unrealistic expectations in social media and the pressures that girls face to be perfect in today’s world. In her book, “Lauren Conrad Beauty,” she says,

“We’re surrounded by absolutely unrealistic ideas of beauty because girls in photos are, well, not real. They’re the result of a hairstylist, a makeup artist, a manicurist, a personal stylist, a tailor, good lighting, correct angles…. And to get that one photo that makes the cut, sometimes a thousand or more need to be taken.”

Conrad’s most inspiring quote about beauty? “Don’t think for a second that you should look like them. Because nobody does, not even them.”

LC has come a long way from the beaches of Laguna, promoting both women power and self confidence. Whether she is putting her toes in the beach, or in her high heels, we are eager to watch her next steps.
