In 1996, at the age of 23, she made history by becoming the first African-American woman to cover the swimsuit issue of “Sports Illustrated” alongside model, Valeria Mazza. In the same year, she appeared on the cover of GQ and Victoria’s Secret Magazine. The following year, she again graced the cover of “Sports Illustrated” but this time around, she did not have to share the spotlight with another model.

In 2001, Banks walked walk the runway for the first live broadcast of the Victoria’s Secret show. She hit the catwalk for the Victoria’s Secret broadcast every year until 2005 when she announced her retirement from modeling.

She is the executive producer and host of one of the highest rated reality television shows for aspiring models. The show, America’s Next Top Model, is an international hit and has been syndicated in many countries including Great Britain and Australia.
