Summer is right around the corner, and that means flip-flops, barbeques, and brighter colors. One of the hottest trends this summer will be the color yellow. This color often gets a bad reputation because it can be tricky to pull off, but anyone can pull off yellow if they style it properly. This summer try incorporating a pop of yellow into your usual wardrobe for a fun a surprising twist.

If you are tentative to commit to the yellow trend, try starting out with just a taste. A small yellow accessory can completely brighten up your look. Try sunglasses or a cute yellow watch, like this one we found at ASOS for $47.

Shoes are also a great choice to spice up your wardrobe. Opt for yellow sandals or flats. Both can easily be paired with either shorts or a skirt and will keep you looking both cute and comfy this summer.

Some people are scared of yellow because they think it will make them looked washed out. While this can be true, especially if you wear a pale yellow color, the opposite effect can be achieved by choosing a bright or neon colored shirt.

Another tip from The Guardian is to “look for lemon, not yellow: the lighter, zestier shades are much easier to wear than the heavier yellows.”

If you want to wear yellow, find something that has a classic shape. The color is bold on its own, so you do not want to over do it. A simple shape will let the color speak for itself. Accompanied by a bright pink or red lipstick is a classic — and one of our favorite ways — to play up a yellow dress.

With yellow clothing, try neutral accessories or complementary colors. We love Nikki Reed’s chunky teal necklace with this yellow blouse. Her black pants and purse allow the color of the shirt to stand out without seeming overly cartoonish. Try recreating her look with this blouse from JCPenney’s.
