This present winter has been by far one of the coldest ones yet. Some of the things we hate about the season are the freezing temperatures and the unexpected blizzards that make it hard for us to determine what to wear.

According to style expert Rebekah George, to dress appropriately for this winter, one needs to learn the three basic layering tips.  First layer – this should be soft and smooth since it’s the closest to your skin. Middle layer – this is meant to provide the warmth that your body needs. Outer layer – this should repel the elements like water, snow and wind.  Below are some of our best layered looks from street styles at New York Fashion (NYFW) and London Fashion Week (LFW) that incorporate George’s three-step layering technique:

1. Aim for bold – adding a bold outer layer will fight off the winter gloom.

2. Hat it off – topping off your look with a sophisticated hat like a fedora is a more stylish alternative than a beanie.

3. Accessorize with plaid – plaid is one of the hottest trends of the season. Adding plaid to your winter wardrobe does not only keep you warm, it makes you look trendy too.

4. Throw in a printed scarf – instead of reaching for a bulky neck warmer or scarf, how about a printed scarf to add a little more flavor to your look?
