Summer is just around the corner, and there is no better time to give your skin some rest and clean out your pores. Weeks of makeup use can leave behind residue in our skin, even after we wash our faces at night. This summer, take some time to do a makeup cleanse, and leave your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated.

Follow these easy tips to make your skin look its best

  1. Exfoliate. Start off with a deep exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and any excess residue in your pores. To get the most out of your exfoliator, try opening your pores over a bowl of hot water. Avoid boiling water as the steam can actually burn your skin. The steam should be warm, not hot. After about a minute or so, your skin should be adequately prepped and you are ready to exfoliate. Rub the product in a gentle circular motion and rinse with warm water.

Make your own Blueberry Honey Face Scrub or try a natural exfoliator like St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub for $3.79

  1. Mask. To extract all the built up dirt from your pores, use a facial mask. Your skin will be perfectly prepped after you exfoliate. Simply apply a thin layer of product and let sit for about ten minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

You can make your own DIY face mask, or buy one like this clay mask available for $3.99

  1. Moisturize. Now that your skin is free of all toxins, it is time to seal in the moisture. This is one of the most important steps. Moisturizers ensure that your skin will retain water and can help you have more radiant skin. In the long run, moisturizers have been shown to help avoid wrinkles as well. To avoid breaking out, look for an oil-free moisturizer.

One of our favorite oil-free moisturizers is this Aveeno Ultra Calming Moisturizer with SPF 15 for $17.49. Since your moisturizer is the one product that will actually be in your skin, we believe it is worth the extra money to ensure your skin is well taken care of.

  1. Tweeze. One of the most overlooked factors in skin care is eyebrow maintenance. Removing out of place hairs will open up your face in the same way covering up a blemish will. Much of makeup is an optical illusion, by taming stray hairs on your face you will automatically look brighter and more put together.

  1. Tan. Though we are not advocates of excess UV rays, the benefits of a bronze glow are unparalleled. To get a fresh from the beach glow try applying a little self tanner. The added color will instantly smooth out any redness in your skin tone and act like a long-lasting tinted moisturizer.

Our staff pick for self tanner is Fake Bake Flawless Self-Tan Liquid. It gives you a realistic bronze color so you don’t have to worry about becoming orange.
