There is no piece more practical than a watch. Dating back to the days of pocket watches, time pieces have been a fashion staple.

How do watches manufacturers keep up? And what makes people eager to buy a gadget they already have in some form or another? According to Nicholas Gerbis, its because “timepieces are less about time and more about image, fashion and status.”

We at the MUI PR Blog tend to agree. Although you probably can find the time elsewhere, watches instantly make an outfit look more complete while also adding a hint of sophistication. In addition, there is something to be said about quickly looking down to your wrist, rather than constantly being exposed to the glare of your smart phone screen.

Below, we have short listed three of our favorite watches for the inaugural launch of our “Watches to Watch” list. If you are in the market for a new watch keep an eye out for these new collection of watches.

1. Panerai: Founded in 1860,Panerai is a luxury watch brand from Italy that  is quickly becoming a favorite for watch enthusiasts today. Although Panerai may seem old, Ryan Weatherill of AskMen.com says that, “watch companies that are on the rise can be well over 100 years old.” Paneri  is especially known for their “Luminor” series, which costs on average $8,000, depending on the purchase channel, either online or in select boutiques around the world.

2. Oris: Founded in 1904, Oris is a Swiss luxury wristwatch brand known for only producing mechanical watches. Similar to Panerai, Oris is gaining popularity with some of their more modern collections. Although Oris watches still cost a hefty price tag, starting at $1000 and up, they are a much more reasonably priced luxury watch brand than Panerai.

3. Nixon: The watches from Nixon are perfect for any man who wants quality but lacks the budget of a CEO. Nixon does carry watches that run in the thousands, like Oris and Panerai, but they also carry options for a younger crowd. We really like the Nixon Time Teller P in Black, which retail for $60. The Nixon Time Teller P is sporty, water resistant for up to 100 meters and is made with a polyurethane band.

Style Expert Tip: There are many styles and brands that fit your watch needs. If it is your first time buying a watch, we suggest going for a classic watch that will work well with both formal and informal outfits — Silver or Black with a leather band would work perfectly. After this initial purchase, you could consider adding a sportier look to your watch collection or even a fancier watch for special occasions.
