Adam Driver, a character on the HBO show “Girls,” is set to play a villain in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.

According to Ethan Sacks of the New York Daily News, “The casting news is a bit of a surprise considering Michael Fassbender had previously been rumored to be considered for the role in director J.J. Abrams sci-fi epic.”  Sacks also reported that the reason it took so long to close the deal was due to Driver’s commitment to HBO’s “Girls.”

He’s not going to be playing Darth Vader, just in case you were wondering. He is going to be playing a brand new villain like Vader. With his character on “Girls” being his main source of fame at the moment, it is hard to imagine Driver as anything but a fast-talking, quirky boyfriend.

Production and location scouting has begun, and it is said that filming will commence this Spring.

Here is to hoping that it is a  success even without George Lucas around!
