What do Kristen Wiig, Chris Parnell, and Andy Samberg all have in common? Well, besides reigning as Saturday Night Live royalty? It does seem as if comedic achievement can have a lasting effect on business affairs after all. Their iconic characters meant so much to the world of comedy that Ben & Jerry’s decided to graciously bestow two brand new ice cream flavors upon them in celebration of SNL’s milestone 40-year anniversary.

Some of you are thinking, “how in the world can it have already been 40 years?!” For those of you sorry souls who either don’t remember these characters or just don’t know what this article is even talking about, shame on you.

Gilly, the Kristen Wiig character who can’t stop biting her bottom lip (or getting into trouble) was such a memorable hot mess on SNL that the the ever forward-thinking Ben & Jerry’s chose her to embody their cooky new flavor. Yet another win for the GMO-haters club; it’s been one successful month for the Vermont brand.

“Gilly” can best be described as a crunchy, chewy, gooey combination of chocolate and sweet cream ice creams, caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds and a marshmallow swirl. Gilly’s sorry she’s not sorry, world.

Digital shorts dominated SNL in the late-2000’s and everyone with a sweet tooth is now so happy they did. Remember the “Lazy Sunday” sketch? The “Lazy Sunday” flavor aims to re-create the genius of the Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell pairing in the resident New Yorker sketch, with a vanilla cake batter ice cream base, chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces and a chocolate frosting swirl. Surprising enough, there are not any odes to the Chronic-what-cles of Narnia. They probably forgot to mention it while they were getting their sugar high on those Magnolia cupcakes.

What do you think of Ben & Jerry’s new flavors celebrating Saturday Night Live’s achievements? Have you tried out the “Gilly” or the “Lazy Sunday”? Let me know what you think by sharing your thoughts in the comments or tweet me @Kelseymbro
