What is it about Beyonce Knowles? All she touches seems to turn to gold. Producing an album on her own terms last year seemed like a major risk to critics, yet her fans appear to respect her even more for this risk. So much respect has been bestowed that the success of her following concert tour with husband Jay-Z landed her on Forbes Magazine’s “Most Powerful Celebrity” list.  Not only did she gain a coveted spot, though; Forbes donned her the most powerful of them all. Queen Bey is the name, indeed.

Most shocking to many is how Knowles swapped places with 2013’s list topper, TV personality Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey has characteristically always held the top spot as a woman and the most powerful Forbes celebrity. This year, Knowles moved up three spots from her number four spot on the list last year, largely on the strength of a 95-show concert tour that averaged $2.4 million per city, the magazine said.

So how exactly does Forbes formulate this list? To come up with the rankings, Forbes looks at finances and fame, including earnings between June 1, 2013 and June 1, 2014. Forbes also examined mentions on social media, print, TV and radio.

Knowles doesn’t have to explain her ability to influence, either. In addition to being named Time’s Most Influential celebrity a few months back, the 32-year-old also rakes in millions with her various business ventures. Forbes added that her success lies in

“Endorsing companies like H&M and Pepsi. She has a line of fragrances with names like Heat, Rise and Pulse, and then there’s her clothing company House of Dereon, which features jeans, shoes and accessories.”

Sure, her success may have been insurmountable this year, but what will the star have to do to keep her reign on the top spot? Time can only tell, but with her fan base, the artist’s star can only continue to keep shining bright.
