Amid all of the news and reveals at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, one stood out above the rest: the reveal of a full length trailer for “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Check it out below!

Clocking in at roughly three and a half minutes, the trailer gives us a much clearer view of the narrative direction Zack Snyder will take his upcoming superhero film. With so many details to get into and dissect, let’s get right down to it.

WARNING: “Man of Steel” spoilers ahead.

Right off the bat, it becomes patently obvious that Batman/Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), as well as many others throughout the world, hold Superman/Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) responsible for the immense destruction inflicted upon Metropolis during the climax of “Man of Steel,” for which Bruce was present to witness. One distinct possibility remains that a known Batman character, like Lucius Fox or Jim Gordon, could have died in the chaos, amplifying Bruce’s anger.

The trailer shows that several Wayne Financial workers lost their lives during the carnage, prompting Bruce to once again don his cape and cowl after years of retirement. The return of Batman leaves Clark Kent uneasy; as the all-American do-gooder, he seems to disagree with the brutal methods the nocturnal vigilante employs. Clark also struggles as he tries to find his place in a world that does not generally seem to want his help.

In both cases, each hero seems to have a supporting chorus, such as Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons), Lois Lane (Amy Adams), Ma Kent (Diane Lane), and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne).

In terms of table setting for the DC cinematic universe, Warner Bros. have taken a considerably different approach to Marvel. Minor details here and there have been inserted as a means to tease towards upcoming projects. Out of all these teases, the biggest no doubt comes in the form of the Robin memorial located inside the Batcave. Bruce looks somberly upon the uniform spray painted with “hahaha joke’s on you, Batman,” and we instantly know the type of Joker we will see in “Suicide Squad.” The same can be said for Wonder Woman/Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), who Snyder has previously described as “a gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League.”

The shots of Wonder Woman look utterly fierce, in all senses of the word. We see her several times throughout the trailer dressed formally, which keeps with the previously released photos indicating a possible romance with Bruce Wayne. However, in her traditional battle outfit, she shows just how much power the character possesses; given her association with Bruce, it would seem possible that she will act as backup for Batman in his fight with Superman, not unlike Green Arrow in “The Dark Knight Returns” graphic novel.

Speaking of the battle, we cannot ignore how much action this trailer shows. It provides a perfect sense of what type of fighter each hero is: Batman as a scrappy brute and Superman as an actual god, unafraid to use his power.

Perhaps the most odd aspect of the trailer is everything involving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). Portrayed as a megalomaniac, Luthor’s endgame has not really been spelled out. We do see that he gets his hands on Kryptonite, as well as the body of General Zod (Michael Shannon). What he does with these items remains to be seen, although many have speculated that Luthor will engineer Zod into the supervillain Doomsday.
