Music streaming has become a new method for musicians to release new music, like Ciara, who has made her most recent album, “Jackie,” available on Spotify.

It has been just about 11 years since “1, 2 Step” and “Goodies” were on the hourly radio playlists. Since then, she released four other albums, including her self-titled album in 2013. “Jackie” is titled after Ciara’s mother, whom she claims “has been her rock during growth as a new mother and artist.”

Her sound is still very much like the Ciara that listeners first met way back when. The album originally contains 11 tracks, but a deluxe version offers a couple of remixes of her first single released back in January, “I Bet.” Spotify’s stream offers both remixes, as well as a couple of extra tracks. Her second track on the album, entitled “That’s How I’m Feelin’,” is scheduled to be the next single.

By allowing her album to stream on Spotify, Ciara is able to keep up with the music industry. Having the ability to download digital copies of all albums on iTunes still allows revenue to go towards the album.  However, streaming solely on Spotify enhances the new market of music streaming services. It makes one company more competitive than others. Perhaps, this was the eventual goal of Tidal and other rival services.

For now, celebrate that Ciara has returned, and listen to her amazing beats.
