Fashion at the Country Music Television (CMT) Awards showcased versatility rather than drawing attention to the country crooners embodying the designs. The show’s entertainment consisted of various acts, including performances of both the latest country hits as well as unique, acoustic versions of today’s most popular chart-topping songs. Memorable looks of the night allowed artists to move across the stage with a free range of motion, focusing the viewer’s’ attention  primarily on the music.

Each act featured designs specifically tailored to the artist performing, while host Kristen Bell had the most diverse outfit changes of probably any host (ever) at the CMT Awards. Bell dazzled in at least five designs and even sported a cowboy hat complete with denim and mustache throughout the evening. Viewing over a dozen live performances made for quite a lively night. Some of the highlights from the 2014 CMT Awards include:

1. John Legend and Jennifer Nettles

Audiences members cheered when Jennifer Nettles joined John Legend in performing his chart-topping hit, “All of Me.” A beautiful take on the piano-driven piece, acoustic guitars accompanied the artists, creating a unique musical version of the summer hit.  Nettles looked sleek in an all-black, leather number but her ensemble didn’t detract from the electric partnership taking place on stage.

2. Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert

Sky-high leather boots, fringe, metallic gold and ultra-voluminous hair trademarked Underwood and Lambert’s performance of “Something Bad.” The duo owned their sexy, signature looks, striding across the stage  like  the professional entertainers they have become.

3. “La Grange/This Is How We Roll/Talk Dirty Medley”

Although the inclusion of pop chart-topping artist Jason Derulo received mixed reviews, he  performed  with incredible energy during the “Florida Georgia Line” medley. Derulo electrified with the band when “Talk Dirty” surprised the crowd, proving that genre lines blur when great music breathes new life onstage.
