In the world of current American pop culture, almost everything from the 1990’s is either getting a remake, a reboot or being redone somehow. Among many recent examples that span several genres and types of multimedia, a perfect example of this phenomenon is the upcoming Kevin Hart and Jack Black-starring “Jumanji” film, a reboot of the classic Robin Williams movie about a haunted board game. Along with that, there have been talks for years to remake arguably the best movie that combines both the Looney Tunes and basketball, Space Jam, but with either LeBron James or Kevin Durant instead of Michael Jordan.

Of all the essential 90’s pop culture receiving this treatment, one video game from that time has just released a trailer nothing short of stunning. Starting as an arcade game and later being ported for various systems, Atari 2600, Atari 7800 and Atari Lynx just to name a few, “Rampage” became a smash hit despite having one of the easiest gameplay mechanisms. The simple game, which went on to spawn numerous sequels and remakes, consisted of the player being able to destroy entire city landscapes while fending off the defending military as they played as either George the giant gorilla, a radioactive lizard named Lizzie or a giant werewolf named Ralph.

The genius developers kept the game from becoming repetitive by upping both the difficulty and the size of the city landscapes to be destroyed. And to keep the series fresh, six additional games and a combined total of 38 new characters were introduced, those characters consisting of everything from a giant Yeti-like monster to a mutated jellyfish.

And because it’s a coveted and much loved piece of 90’s nostalgia that I’m fairly certain many Millennials have fond memories of, the “Rampage” series are getting the very same treatment that the upcoming “Jumanji” film has received. A treatment so similar in fact that both films are starring the same actor.

Superstar, former WWE world champion, the presidential candidate I’m proudly voting for in 2020 and arguably the closest thing to Superman on Earth other than JJ Watt, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be the protagonist, a primatologist named Davis Okoye. Following a meteorite  that infects Okoye’s favorite gorilla, George, with an unknown agent, the primate greatly increases in size and becomes increasingly aggressive. Arguably though, the most terrifying part is that a wolf and a crocodile have both endured similar transformations as George has. Throughout multiple cities, the three creatures battle each other.

As well as The Rock himself, “Rampage” has “Spectre” and “Skyfall” actress Naomie Harris and the only man on Earth who can properly portray the greatest villain in the history of “The Walking Dead”, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. From the trailer alone, anyone can tell that the film will be a thrill ride of enormous monsters pitting against one another, with characters being played by “Magic Mike”-starring Joe Manganiello and Morgan possibly playing yet another antagonist against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Not only could it be “Negan vs. The Rock”, but the film is guaranteed to have at least “a giant gorilla vs. a giant wolf vs. a giant crocodile.” Talk about a badass triple threat match. Personally, I’m already interested.

Watch the trailer whenever you can and check out “Rampage” in theaters on April 20, 2018.
