The producers of popular television show, “The Simpsons,” are known for their freakish fortune-telling abilities after airing multiple episodes that appear to be predicting multiple events throughout history, years before they actually take place. In 1997 alone, the TV show seemingly predicted the 2014 Ebola outbreak in an episode titled “Curious George and the Ebola Virus;” as well as 9/11, with references to the event in an episode called, “New York City Against Homer.” With the United States currently engulfed in presidential campaigns, an episode of “The Simpsons” from the year 2000, has been retrieved and brought into the public view. This particular episode features a Donald Trump presidency, which many are saying is another strangely accurate prediction from the producers.

The episode, “Bart to the Future,” aired almost exactly 16 years ago. The show plays a game of “what if,” as they send Bart Simpson into the future where he finds his sister Lisa as the President while the country in the midst of an economic downfall due to a Trump presidency. According to the episode’s creators, it was seen as, “a warning to America.” But the harmless episode that was comically unlikely has inadvertently become a potential reality.

The episode’s writer Dan Greaney, stated that he picked Trump for presidency because it was essentially a perfect example in portraying a vision in America going insane. It beat all of us in an idea of a Trump candidacy. Greaney also told the Hollywood Reporter:

“The important thing is that Lisa comes into the presidency when America is on the ropes and that is the condition left by the Trump presidency. What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that’s why we had Trump be president before her. The Simpsons has always kind of embraced the over-the-top side of American culture … and [Trump] is just the fulfilment of that.”
