Olivia Wilde is a beautiful and talented actress, writer, producer, feminist, and mother. She is best known for her work in predominantly smaller supporting roles in many large blockbuster films, such as “Her,” “TRON,” and “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” among others, as well as her engagement to “Saturday Night Live” alum, Jason Sudeikis, but she has proved that she is much more than just another gifted actress or even just another drop-dead-gorgeous face. Wilde dons a new name, “activist” and “humanitarian,” which she has earned through her admirable work on her own self-produced documentary exposing the poverty crisis in third world countries, as well as her show of support for maternal health at the UN Global Moms + Social Good Conference, and her well spoken words about the “State of Female Justice” and the media.

Of late, Wilde has been making headlines because of her controversial photo-shoot on the cover of the September issue of Glamour, released yesterday. In her cover spread, she is featured wearing a gorgeous bohemian Roberto Cavalli dress and strappy Prada shoes with her 5-month-old son, Otis, at her breast. The risqué subject matter was brought to light through this tasteful Glamour cover spread, and although one has to expect a certain amount of negative feedback on such a highly publicized magazine shoot, the return has been mostly positive. Women everywhere have been taking to Twitter to praise her efforts to publicize the advantages of breastfeeding and for having the courage to put herself out there as a champion for the health benefits of nursing. “There’s nothing indecent about feeding a hungry baby,” Wilde said in her tweet yesterday morning following the release of the September issue.

Olivia Wilde, a new mother in her 30’s, has been an inspiration to millions of new or working mothers worldwide. Despite the negative connotation our society assigns to working mothers with the assumption of preoccupation or neglect, Wilde has been a model for the ideal approach to motherhood in a progressive world. She has voiced her undying love for her tiny newborn child and the impact her son has had on her as a person and on her life priorities, as well as her continued ambition for her own career; she is currently working on filming an upcoming project: an HBO series with Martin Scorsese. Olivia Wilde is all about finding that perfect balance that we all strive for every day. “[The] multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing… that we know we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed.”
