Confession time: everyone wants more likes on Instagram. Anyone who says differently tends not to post or does not even have an account. Likes, however, can be quite elusive. However, thanks to Cosmopolitan and some research done by various sources, there are a few sure fire ways we put to the test that generated the more likes.

1. Take more selfies: I know, this is such conundrum. While taking selfies has been made fun of in popular songs like, “#SELFIE” by The Chainsmokers. However, this is a proven way to generate more likes on photos (and more followers). According to an analysis reported by Cosmopolitan, “An analysis of 1.1 million photos on Instagram found that pictures that show your face are 38 percent more likely to receive likes than photos with no faces, which is great since there is a 1,000 percent chance you are already doing this.”

2. Use the Willow filter: the one filter that beats no filter? The soft black-and-white filter of Willow. On average this filter generates the most likes of any other filter.

3. Aim for about seven hashtags per post: Any more than that, and you might come across as a spam bot. This is also a magic number that was derived from an analysis website, “Piqora.”

4. Optimize your hashtags: while making sure you limit your hashtags to the magic number of seven, it is important that you use hashtags that typically are the most popular. To see what hashtags are the most popular today, visit TagsForLikes!

5. Use this hashtag: Of all the hashtags, make sure that one of the hashtags you use is #NoFilter! According to Cosmopolitan, even if you are lying, “Photos with this tag are 10 percent more likely to receive likes.”

6. Avoid Being Boring: probably the most important tip is to make sure that you are posting images that are interesting. While posting selfies generates more likes, try to incorporate interesting imagery into your posts as well. Try interesting angles, unique art, or awesome new products you might have purchased.

7. Post pictures with lots of light: Dark, blurry pictures at a night club tend not to attract as much attention as pictures with lots of light and clear lines. According to Daily Mail, “Lighter photos were more popular than darker photos, by 24 per cent, and highly textured photos got more attention than flatter snaps, by almost 80 percent.”
