Ubisoft was worried their newest title “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate” wouldn’t sell as well as they had hoped after the first week of sales were lower than expected. However, the developer reported that the second week’s sales numbers were on the rise.    



Gamers were hesitant to purchase the next game in the “Assassin’s Creed” series after the previous title was released with a huge number of glitches. After fans of the series saw that “Syndicate” wasn’t riddled with technical problems, gamers felt comfortable enough to purchase the game in the second week. Ubisoft’s CFO, Alain Martinez, commented on “Syndicate’s” rocky start, and said that the sales were affected “by what had happened with Assassin’s Creed Unity.”


Triple A titles like “Fallout 4,” “Batman: Arkham Knight,” and “Assassin’s Creed Unity” were released with bugs that made these games nearly unplayable for many. These are games that were made by big name developers with massive budgets, yet they were still sold with a ton of issues. If video game developers don’t start catching the problematic bugs and glitches in their big titles before they are released, it could start affecting sales for their future games like it did for Ubisoft.


Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot said that “Syndicate’s” sales now resemble the numbers put out by their popular title, “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.” He also said that more gamers are playing “Syndicate” than they did with “Unity,” and that playtime is “massively up” in comparison, even though it’s only been two weeks since the game’s release.
