New findings on vaccine risks

Vaccination against Covid-19 – in very rare cases – is suspected to put people at increased risk Thromboembolic disease and thrombocytopenia.

If a clot occurs to block a pulmonary artery, the first results are clot formation in veins or pulmonary embolism. The second corresponds to a decrease in the number of platelets and an increased incidence of bleeding.

To dig deeper into the subject, researchers in Denmark, Finland and Norway conducted a study on anti-Covid vaccines from Pfizer-BioEntech, Moderna and AstraZeneca laboratories.

The cohort included 265,339 patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease, bleeding disorders, or cerebrovascular disease between 1There is January 2020 and May 16, 2021.

Increased risk of cerebral thrombosis

with:

• AstraZeneca’s vaccine “Increases the risk of cerebral venous thrombosis and thrombocytopenia,” reports the study’s lead author, Professor Jacob Dag Perilt;
• No significant interaction was observed for messenger RNA vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

History?

These risks of thrombocytopenia, but also of coagulation disorders, were underlined in a March 2021 letter to healthcare professionals by the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines (ANSM), about the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Cases of thromboembolic disease and thrombocytopenia have actually been described within 7 to 14 days of vaccination, particularly in women under 55 years of age.

But ANSM reminds us that these accidents are so rare “Profit [de la vaccination] Although there is a very possible link to the very rare occurrence of blood clots associated with low platelets, the risks outweigh the risks.

When to consult?

If you have just been vaccinated against Covid-19, here are the symptoms you should consult if they occur within hours or days of the injection: “Shortness of breath, severe chest pain, swelling of the legs, or persistent abdominal pain,” ANSM Releases.
