Norway’s defense minister indicated on Tuesday that he wants to deliver tanks to Kiev as soon as possible.
“We haven’t decided the number yet…but we hope it will be done as soon as possible”Bjorn Arild Gram promises this Tuesday, Russian news agency reported Rhea Novosti.
Norway’s defense minister hopes to deliver German-made Leopard 2s to Ukraine by the end of March.
Norway has 36 of these tanks, but it is not yet specified how many of them the country is willing to transfer to Ukraine.
Accreditation from Germany
NATO countries that own the tanks received authorization from Germany last week to re-export them to Ukraine.
As for Germany, it plans to initially deliver 14 Leopard 2 Type A6s from Bundeswehr stocks.
The US also announced that it will send 31 Abrams M1 tank units of its own production to Ukraine. At the same time, the White House said it would take “several months” to deliver Abrams.
NATO is “playing with fire”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that any ship carrying weapons destined for Ukraine would become a legitimate Russian target. According to him, NATO countries are “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Kiev.
